Project 4 - Website

Our objective for this assignment was to design two web pages that featured our logo and poster designs from previous projects. We were given the task to incorporate these elements into a home and a portfolio page that were both functional and visually appealing. My approach for this project was to create a user-friendly space with simple composition and easy navigation. I decided to implement the main navigation on the top of the page and used rollover images of the text with a subtle outer glow to show the action of a mouse over. This rollover image would stay visible on the corresponding pages that the user is on. My next, and possibly most important, focus was to constrain my viewable area so that all of my information could be seen at all times without having to scroll up and down the webpage. This task was easy on the home page since there was not a great amount of content that needed to be displayed. However, the portfolio page added the challenge of including a method to display multiple pieces of artwork, along with their descriptions, within the viewable area and without changing pages. My first solution to this problem was to add a sub navigation system to separate my different portfolio categories. Next I implemented a row of thumbnails underneath a large space that could accommodate both horizontal and vertical enlarged images of the chosen artwork. On the right hand side of the page I decided to create a framed text box that displays the descriptions of the selected pieces. As for the aesthetics of my piece, I chose a simple color palette containing muted blues and grays that allow for easy viewing and also reflect a smooth feeling over the site. A circular grate pattern was used to create a column through the viewable area and utilized on the outer margins to tie the whole composition together. In this project I also introduced my new logo, which I thought related nicely to the sleek feel of the site. I believe that there is a nice harmony between all of the elements and believe I accomplished my goal of creating a clean and simple composition.
