Project 3 - Newsletter

This project involved designing a page layout that focused on the hierarchy of information. I found that this exercise demanded organization of both images and text as well as placement and unity to get the information across in the most efficient manner. I chose to approach this design with a clean, structured look utilizing one main paragraph on top and two columns on the bottom. Applying a green color scheme was my next step since I believe that it represents a technology theme well and it also relates to the color of money, which is the ultimate agenda of a marketing sheet. After I set my color palette I began to arrange my header space. Here I gave emphasis to the title of the document because I felt that it had more meaning to the piece than eMarketer heading. Next I applied the main body of text and utilized the paragraph styles option to format my subheads and text. After arranging these components I began searching for an image to tie everything together. I knew from the beginning that I wanted to incorporate an image that contained computer technology as well as education in its composition. After searching endlessly I finally found the perfect photo in a stock photography site and had to break down and pay it. It was worth every cent since it fit what I had imagined for my piece. The next item on my agenda was to recreate the chart, which I accomplished using In Design, and adapted it to fit into the screen of my computer monitor image. Finally, I applied a footer that complimented my header space and nestled in the small logos. Overall, I found this exercise to be extremely challenging. There was a great amount of information that had to be crammed into a small amount of space with little room for error. The most difficult part of this assignment was trying to incorporate all of these elements into a fluid design which was appealing and easy to read. I believe that this project will be a great stepping stone for the future when we will be working on multiple page documents with much more information to arrange.
